Early calibre 861 production, and the window that produced the dials collectors call tropical. The black lacquer of this period was unstable under ultraviolet light, so some dials have turned an even chocolate brown across fifty years. A defect at the factory is now what the market pays a premium for. Transitional step dials, where the outer track sits on a raised lip, also appear in this batch.
- A browned dial on this reference is oxidation of the original black finish. Omega never catalogued a brown dial here.
