Why is authentication priced by estimated value?
Estimated value is a clear, predictable proxy for what is at stake. It keeps the fee published in advance while every watch receives the same core inspection and registry standard.
What if my watch is rare, vintage, or complicated?
Rarity, era, construction, and complications help identify the expertise the inspection needs. They do not become a separate surprise surcharge; the published fee is determined by the watch's estimated value band.
When do I pay?
The full fee is paid when you book your appointment. Browsing the directory and requesting an appointment cost nothing. If the inspection never takes place, the fee is refunded.
What if the watch turns out not to be authentic?
The price is the same. You receive a written findings statement from the authenticator who examined the watch, a document you can use with the seller, the marketplace, or your card issuer. The expert inspection is identical whichever way the verdict goes, and so is the fee.
What does the certificate transfer fee cover?
The $49 transfer fee records a change of ownership in the Watch Safe registry and moves the digital certificate to the new owner's vault. It does not replace or repeat the original authentication.
