Launched in 1957 as a motorsport chronograph, and the first watch to put the tachymetre scale on the bezel rather than the dial. NASA bought several chronographs off the shelf, subjected them to a qualification programme of heat, vacuum, shock and acceleration, and the Speedmaster was the only one that survived. It has been flight-qualified for every manned NASA mission since 1965.
