In 1939 Patek Philippe introduced the reference 1415 HU, the first world time wristwatch it built in series, using Louis Cottier's rotating city-ring mechanism, the format the whole category still follows today. Cottier assembled every 1415 by hand from a movement blank Patek Philippe sent him unfinished. Total production across roughly fifteen years came to about 115 pieces in yellow and pink gold, plus a single documented platinum example.
