In 2015 Lange rebuilt the Lange 1's movement from the ground up as caliber L121.1, its first full redesign since the 1994 original. The balance is now free-sprung with an in-house hairspring in place of the earlier Nivarox spring and screwed balance, and the outsize date switches instantly at midnight instead of dragging into position. From the dial side the watch reads almost identically to the reference it replaced; the changes are all inside the case.
