Visible aging in a watch's materials, such as a faded dial, oxidized lume, or a warmed metal tone, that develops naturally over time.
Genuine patina develops unevenly and follows the physical logic of light and air exposure, which makes it difficult to fake convincingly across an entire watch. Authenticators look for patina that's inconsistent between parts that should have aged the same way, since that mismatch can point to a replaced dial, hands, or bezel insert being passed off as original.
