Gilt Dial
A vintage dial style in which the text and markings appear in warm gold tones against glossy black, produced by a reverse printing process rather than gold-colored ink.

Gilt dials command large premiums on vintage sport watches, which makes them a frequent target for refinishing and outright fakery. The genuine process leaves the gilt work slightly recessed under the glossy lacquer rather than printed on top, a difference an inspection can read under magnification. A gilt dial on a reference or production year that never used one is a red flag on its own.
