A pre-Explorer: the Oyster Perpetual reference Rolex supplied to the 1953 British Everest expedition, before Explorer existed as a name. The case is an Ovettone, a one-piece monobloc that opens from the front rather than the back, closed by a push-in Super Oyster crown. The Explorer line followed directly from watches like this one.
