The dial texture is meant to evoke snow drifted across the ground near the Shinshu studio in Nagano where it is made. It runs Spring Drive, Seiko's hybrid regulator that uses a mainspring for power but an electromagnetic brake for timing — so the seconds hand glides continuously rather than ticking.
- Spring Drive has no escapement. The glide-motion seconds hand is a direct consequence of that architecture, not a styling choice.
