Two escapements in one watch. The timekeeping side runs at a conventional rate while a second and entirely separate oscillator drives the chronograph at 360,000 vibrations an hour, which is 100 Hz and fast enough to resolve a hundredth of a second. Keeping them independent is the whole point, since the chronograph then cannot drag on the rate of the watch.
- The Defy 21 carries two independent oscillators. A single-oscillator chronograph cannot run its counter at a different frequency from its timekeeping.
