Founded in 1755 by Jean-Marc Vacheron, it is the oldest watch manufacturer in continuous operation. Its Maltese cross emblem is drawn from a component used to regulate mainspring tension. For most of its history it made classical complicated watches; the 222 of 1977 and its Overseas descendant are the exception that gave it a modern sports line.
