The original Black Bay, and the watch that gave Tudor a modern identity of its own. It borrows openly from the brand's 1950s divers, the burgundy bezel and the snowflake hands among them, at a moment when Rolex was moving in the opposite direction. Underneath is a modified ETA 2824-2, four years before Tudor began making its own movements.
- This generation runs a bought-in ETA calibre. The in-house MT5602 arrives with the 2016 references.

How do I check a Tudor 79220R with Watch Safe?
Look up the watch's serial number in the Watch Safe registry to see whether a record exists or a theft flag is attached. A registry search identifies records for a specific serial; it does not authenticate the watch. Authentication is performed in person by an independent expert authenticator, and Watch Safe records and publishes the result.
