Named for its bracelet. The S-shaped links were designed in 1987 for what was then the S/el — short for Sport and Elegance — and the shape is functional as much as visual: the curve lets each link articulate further than a flat one, so the bracelet follows the wrist closely. When the watch was renamed in 1999 it was renamed after the bracelet, which is unusual.
