Rolex · Sea-Dweller
Known in the trade as the Double Red.
Developed with the French commercial diving company COMEX for saturation divers. Helium atoms work their way into a watch case during a long decompression, then expand and blow the crystal off on ascent — so Rolex fitted a one-way helium escape valve. Earliest dials carry two lines of red text, which is where 'Double Red' comes from.
The 1665 was produced from 1967 to 1978.
The Rolex 1665 runs the Cal. 1575, an automatic movement.
Look up the watch's serial number in the Watch Safe registry to see whether a record exists or a theft flag is attached. A registry search identifies records for a specific serial; it does not authenticate the watch. Authentication is performed in person by an independent expert authenticator, and Watch Safe records and publishes the result.
