The Root Beer nickname started with this watch. Introduced in 1970, the 1675/3 was the first Rolex GMT-Master built in Rolesor, steel and yellow gold together, and the first to carry the brown-and-gold bezel that gave "Root Beer" its name, setting it apart from the blue-and-red Pepsi and black-and-red Coke bezels on the all-steel GMT-Masters. It paired that bezel with a matching brown dial and gold hour markers whose shape earned them the "nipple dial" nickname among collectors, offered on either an Oyster or Jubilee bracelet.
- The 1675/3 is the original two-tone Root Beer, predating the solid-gold 1675/8.
- No 1675 variant ever received a quickset date; Rolex fitted Caliber 1565 through 1965 and Caliber 1575 afterward.
- A 1675/3 case and bracelet should show Rolesor construction — steel center links with gold outer links and crown — with a monochrome brown bezel insert rather than the Pepsi or Coke coloring used on steel GMT-Masters.
