The name survives from a wartime series Rolex made for RAF pilots, several of whom were buying watches out of their own pay because service issue was poor. It spent decades as the plainest and cheapest Rolex, then was discontinued in 2014 and revived in 2016 as something stranger — a 3-6-9 dial with a full minute track, green and yellow lettering, and an origin story in Rolex's instrument work for the Bloodhound land speed project.
