It began as a dress offshoot of the Seamaster in 1960 and became its own line in 1967. This is where Omega puts the watches that are not sports watches, which makes it the quietest part of the catalogue and the part where its movement work is easiest to see — the co-axial escapement George Daniels invented was launched in a De Ville in 1999, not in a Speedmaster or a Seamaster.
