Super-LumiNova

A non-radioactive, photoluminescent lume pigment introduced in the mid-1990s that has largely replaced tritium across the industry.

Why it matters for authentication

Super-LumiNova comes in different colors and formulations that shifted over the years since its introduction, so its shade and application should be plausible for the watch's stated production date. A tritium-era watch with modern Super-LumiNova on its hands or markers signals a replacement part, disclosed or not.
