Its own materials are candid that the analysis is visual-only and is not a legal certificate of authenticity. The genuine differences

Credit where due: WatchRadar is unusually candid about its limits. Its own comparison of authentication services states that the analysis is visual-only, cannot see the movement, and does not constitute a legal certificate of authenticity. That honesty is worth taking at face value, in both directions: it is a fast, clever screening tool, and it says itself what it is not.

The certificate models look similar on the surface and are not. WatchRadar's public page verifies that a certificate exists and matches its scan. A Watch Safe registry entry is a record about the watch: an in-person inspection by a named independent expert, the ownership history, and any theft report, attached to the serial number permanently. One authenticates a document; the other documents a watch.

There is also the question of what the check physically touches. An AI scan evaluates the watch a camera was pointed at, wherever and whatever that was. An in-person authentication confirms the watch exists, is present, is genuine through the case back as well as the dial, and is the watch whose serial goes on the record. For a seconds-fast free screen, that gap is acceptable; for a five-figure purchase, it is the whole question.

Choose WatchRadar as a fast first screen: identifying a watch, sanity-checking a listing photo, or getting a quick visual read before deciding whether a watch deserves a real inspection.

As a first screen it is genuinely useful. As the only check before a large purchase, it leaves exactly the gaps that in-person inspection exists to close.

Both services offer something verifiable online. What is the difference?

WatchRadar's public page verifies a certificate: that a scan happened and produced that document. Watch Safe's registry entry is about the watch itself: who physically inspected it, when, its ownership history, and whether it has ever been reported stolen, all attached to the serial number permanently and checkable by anyone for free.
