Patented in 1931 to solve a specific problem: British Army officers in India kept destroying watch crystals playing polo. The case slides in its cradle and flips face-down, presenting a solid steel back. The Art Deco proportions have barely changed, and the blank reverse became a canvas for engraving, enamel and second dials.
